Gentlemen (and ladies), start your engines…

Hello and welcome to my first blog post!

I’ll be using this blog to share my thoughts on everything car, engine, transport and mechanical! I have had an interest in these often beautiful examples of engineering from a very young age and finally, I am able to write about them!

First of all though, I must declare an interest; as you can probably tell from the web address, I am the owner of a company called Vintage Dubs. We are a small company, specialising in the hire, restoration and sales of classic VW’s. Our 1969 VW Bay Camper is an absolute stunner and available to hire for holidays, weddings and special events. We’ve named her Roxy and there is some more information about her here – www.vintagedubs.co.uk/meetroxy

I also have a 1972 1300 Beetle which is undergoing a full restoration and keeping me very busy. Read my updates on the restoration on our Facebook page -Vintage Dubs

Back to the engineering though and yesterday we spent a few hours wondering around the Newton Longville Festival of Transport. Combining your typical English village fete with a huge selection of fantastic cars, it was an afternoon well spent. Here are a few photographs of my favourites;

Lotus Elan – anything by Mr Chapman has to be admired but this is surely one of his most elegant designs? Second only to the Elan Sprint perhaps?!

The Americans often get a rough time when it comes to cars but the ‘Vette is an absolute beast!

And we couldn’t finish out first post without a photograph of an aircooled VW. This Samba is an absolute stunner!

Finally, I must quickly mention the Monaco GP yesterday and in particular Lewis’ comments after the race. I know the media will blow up what he said out of all proportion but I do believe that in this occasion, he is absolutely right. We all want to see more overtaking and thus the last thing we should be doing, is penalising those drivers who do. Don’t listen to them Lewis – you’ll be champion again soon!
